It’s a pretty boring thing, but a thing nonetheless.
We traded in our 2013 Subaru Crosstrek Limited with 55k miles that we still owed 10k on (they gave us 15k for it) to a 2013 Chevy Equinox with 19k miles. It’s bigger and gets the same milage as the Subaru and has 30k less miles, we also got a cheaper payment and the patent pending Doug Demuro warranty to go along with it. We’re pretty happy with how everything worked and went down at Carmax but obviously YMMV.
If anyone has any questions on how the buying process went, let me know and I’d be happy to share.
Also, LOOK AT MY CUTE BABY SON! LOOK AT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE DEMANDS YOUR ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until I saw the picture I assumed this was from a kid’s perspective because you said “my family bought a thing”.
Until the last sentence about him being your son, I just assumed he wrote the article.

How much oil was your cross trek burning between changes and did you tell them?

I actually never see those, here in SF everything is Japanese, German or even British, aside from full size stuff like Suburbans and the Explorer has made a comeback, even CHP has them instead of cars now.

Very cool that you and your son rock the same haircut!

Oh, man, that REAR LEGROOM. Your lower backs are going to be so much happier and the backs of your seats (when/if your son is facing forward) will have so much less damage. In another year, that Subie would have been worth about Tree Fiddy based on child wear & tear alone :D

My mother has a 2010 Equinox, and she likes it quite a bit. It’s the V6 so there’s some power to it. Biggest perk: the rear legroom. There’s acres upon acres of rear legroom.

How long was the buying process start to finish? We’ll probably be heading to CarMax in Denver soon and getting a Sedona, but I have a toddler in his terrible 2s and a 6 month pregnant wife - both have little patience for a long process

Okay that caught me out for a second. Usually when people say “my family” they mean “my parents” so the baby caught me off guard. I was about to congratulate for being ahead of your years.

Zero actually. My vehicle build date apparently missed the cutoff by a month or something (I heavily looked into the class action that was set against Subaru pertaining to this and we weren’t covered by it).
I did have my rear brakes wear down to nothing when my fronts only wore down half way about 4k miles ago though. My wife also had issues where multiple dummy lights came on at one time (It happened twice) so we’re happy to dump the car.

The rear brakes on my 2013 Outback were toast at 30k, the fronts are at 70%. My car is also burning oil 1 qt/3000 or so. I kinda want to get it gone, no dummy lights or any other issues at 35k.

Buying process from start to finish was +/- 3 Hours max. (not including coming and going on multiple visits, three total for us, test driving cars and getting an appraisal put together). Most of the time you are waiting around for the “business office” to put together all the paperwork.
There is LITERALLY no haggling going on, it’s all clear as day what you are selling/buying and no “hidden fees” or pushing for add-ons.
Bring lots of toys/activities for you to keep your two year old occupied. They have a “kids” area which is cool, but if your kid is anything like mine, his mind will lose interest and focus on something else. My son just learned how to walk two weeks ago, so most of my time was balanced between following him walk from one end of the sales area to the other or talking to the sales guy while my wife did it. They were very accommodating/patient with us.

Yup, I think we were lucky on the oil burning front.. The brake thing REALLY surprised me though. I researched it after it happened and apparently it is an issue with Subaru’s.. Nobody knows why though...

Congrats on the new ride! And super cute baby haha.
I recently traded my ride at C’Max as well, process was super smooth (aside from another dealer taking 3 weeks to ship my vehicle) and they couldn’t have been nicer.
I was reading some comments on oil burning and brake issues, I just so happened to have gotten a 14 impreza wagon, so I’m very curious about what problems you had and what models they span across

That’s pretty much why we are going the CarMax route - as simple as possible, minimal aggravation, etc. Plus the warranty.
How much was the warranty on yours? Did they talk about how the price for it is determined

They didn’t explain how the price is determined but we paid 1200 dollars for the $100 deductible (it’s only $50 if you take it into CarMax), 100,000 mile warranty AND we still have a month left on the GM warranty, so I plan on calling a dealership this week to possibly do a lookover on the car to see if any warranty work can be performed before it expires.
